The Biggest Album Debuts of 2026 So Far: BTS, Olivia Rodrigo and Drake Lead the Chart

With the final quarter of 2026 under way, the leaderboard for the year’s biggest album launches has taken shape. K-pop, pop and hip-hop share the top spots, and roots and country artists have carved out a bigger share than in past years. Here are the largest first-week totals on the Billboard 200 so far this year, measured in equivalent album units that combine sales and streaming.

The top 10 first weeks of 2026

  1. BTS – ARIRANG: 641,000 units (released March 20)
  2. Olivia Rodrigo – you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love: 485,000 (June 12)
  3. Drake – ICEMAN: 463,000 (May 15)
  4. Harry Styles – Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally.: 430,000 (March 12)
  5. Noah Kahan – The Great Divide: 389,000 (April 24)
  6. Stray Kids – THIS & THAT: 369,000 (August 7)
  7. Ariana Grande – petal: 295,000 (July 31)
  8. J. Cole – The Fall-Off: 280,000 (February 6)
  9. ATEEZ – GOLDEN HOUR: Part 5: 228,000 (June 26)
  10. ATEEZ – GOLDEN HOUR: Part 4: 200,000 (February 6)

Just outside the top 10 sit Bruno Mars’ The Romantic (186,000), Ella Langley’s Dandelion (169,000), Don Toliver’s OCTANE (162,000), Ye’s BULLY (152,000) and Megan Moroney’s Cloud 9 (147,000), according to a running tally compiled by Ratings Game Music.

Three takeaways

K-pop’s buying power is unmatched. BTS’s return produced the biggest week of the year by a wide margin, and Stray Kids and ATEEZ placed three more albums in the top 10. K-pop fandoms remain the most reliable source of large physical sales, often supported by multiple collectible editions.

Big pop releases still deliver. Olivia Rodrigo, Harry Styles and Ariana Grande all posted strong openings, showing that event-style album launches continue to drive sales and streaming in the same week.

Roots and country music are expanding their footprint. Noah Kahan’s folk-leaning The Great Divide landed in the top five, while Ella Langley and Megan Moroney cracked the top 15. Langley’s album also coincided with her record-breaking run on the Hot 100.

What has not happened yet

None of the year’s 15 biggest debuts arrived in September or early October. September releases from artists including Miley Cyrus, Riley Green and Jhené Aiko charted but did not reach the top tier, leaving the holiday season as the last chance for a late entry to shake up the rankings.

Why first-week numbers still matter

In the streaming era, an album’s opening week is less about total lifetime sales and more about momentum. A strong debut drives playlist placement, media attention and tour demand. That is why labels continue to schedule exclusive vinyl variants, deluxe editions and surprise tracks around release day.
